Dog food companies get most of their meat products shipped in after they have already been processed. The reason this matters is because the manufacturers only have to claim what they themselves put into their dog food.

So lets say you buy some natural puppy food and it claims to have no preservatives in it. This make you happy because you've already learned from earlier posts how deadly the preservatives are. But what the manufacturers are telling you is that they have not added any preservatives and what their not telling you is that the meat they received already had preservatives put into it so they can safely claim that it is preservative free. The laws surrounding dog food permits this!
